Mixed Breed
A mixed breed cat is a domestic cat without a single closed pedigree breed identity. Some mixed breed cats have known parents from different breeds, but many are simply domestic shorthair, domestic mediumhair, or domestic longhair cats shaped by local populations rather than registry selection. They can appear in nearly any color, pattern, coat length, body type, and temperament. The label is useful because it avoids forcing every cat into a formal breed when the ancestry is unknown or varied.
Mixed breed cats are common in shelters, rescues, barns, colonies, and ordinary homes, and their care should be based on the individual in front of the owner. Age, body condition, dental health, parasite history, socialization, and indoor or outdoor background matter more than guessing a breed from appearance. Records can still be valuable for vaccines, microchips, medical history, and known family relationships. Buyers and adopters should be cautious about casual breed claims unless there is real pedigree or DNA evidence behind them.
