Manx
The Manx is a tailless or short-tailed cat breed from the Isle of Man, where naturally shortened tails became strongly associated with the local cat population. Manx cats are usually rounded in outline, with a deep flank, powerful hindquarters, and a hopping, sturdy gait when built correctly. Tail length varies from rumpy cats with no visible tail to risers, stumpies, and longies. Both shorthaired and longhaired forms exist, with the longhaired form sometimes called Cymric in separate registry systems.
Manx breeding requires careful attention because the same genetics that shorten the tail can be linked with spinal and bowel problems. Responsible breeders evaluate kittens over time, keep detailed tail-length records, and avoid treating complete taillessness as the only desirable outcome. Owners should watch mobility, litter habits, and weight, especially in young cats. A long-tailed Manx from a sound breeding program can still be valuable for health and genetic balance. For buyers, comfort and veterinary history should matter more than the most dramatic tail description.
