Sphynx
Sphynx cats are hairless or nearly hairless cats developed from natural mutations, with modern lines strongly associated with Canada. Their appearance comes from fine down, visible skin folds, large ears, and a warm, suede-like feel rather than a complete absence of coat. Skin color and pattern still show, so a Sphynx can display tabby, tortoiseshell, pointed, or solid patterning through pigmentation on the skin.
Care is more hands-on than with most shorthaired cats. Without a normal insulating coat, Sphynx cats need warm indoor living, protection from strong sun, and regular cleaning to manage skin oils, ears, and nails. Breeders and buyers should discuss heart screening, especially hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, along with dental care and robust body condition. The breed's sociable nature is a strength, but it should never be used to excuse poor skin care or weak health documentation.
