Russian Blue
The Russian Blue is a shorthaired cat with a dense blue-gray double coat, silver sheen, green eyes, and a fine foreign body. Breed history connects it with blue cats from northern Russia, including the old Archangel cat tradition, though modern lines were shaped by breeders in Britain, Europe, and North America. The coat is one of its clearest traits: plush, even, and distinctly blue rather than black, lilac, or ordinary gray tabby.
Russian Blues often prefer predictable homes where they can form close bonds without constant noise or rough handling. Their coat needs little grooming beyond soft brushing and hand polishing, but weight control matters because the plush coat can hide extra pounds. Breeders should preserve vivid green eyes, correct coat texture, and a reserved but stable temperament. People adopting a gray cat should not assume it is a Russian Blue without pedigree evidence; many domestic cats share the color while lacking the breed's specific coat, body, and ancestry.
