Xuhai
The Xuhai goat is a local Chinese goat type associated with the Xuhai region of eastern China, an area named for Xuzhou and Haizhou and the surrounding lowland farming districts. It is a domestic goat breed of Capra hircus kept mainly for meat and smallholder production rather than a highly uniform exhibition animal. Animals are commonly described in practical farm terms: moderate size, adaptable feeding habits, and coat colors that may include black, brown, cream, fawn, buckskin, or mixed markings depending on the flock.
Xuhai goats fit mixed crop-livestock systems where goats graze field margins, browse hedges, and consume crop byproducts. In wetter eastern climates, routine foot care, parasite monitoring, and clean housing matter as much as feed quantity. Breeding decisions tend to favor fertility, kid survival, growth, and suitability for local markets.
