Lowline

The Lowline cattle, originating from Australia, are a distinctive breed valued for their compact size and efficient meat production. Developed through a selective breeding program initiated in the 1970s at the Trangie Agricultural Research Centre in New South Wales, they were specifically bred to maintain a smaller stature without compromising genetic quality. Lowlines are known for their gentle disposition, making them easy to handle and ideal for small-scale farming or hobby farms.

Typically standing about three-quarters the size of standard beef cattle, they are incredibly efficient grass converters, thriving on pasture-based diets and requiring less maintenance. Their meat is tender, well-marbled, and flavorful, often regarded as gourmet beef. This breed’s adaptability to a range of climates and their resilience contribute to low input costs, making them an attractive choice for those seeking sustainable beef production or merely wishing to diversify their livestock. Lowline cattle are also favored for crossbreeding, enhancing meat quality and size efficiency in other herds.
