Mini Rex
The Mini Rex is a small rex-coated rabbit developed to carry the plush texture of the standard Rex in a more compact body. Its coat stands upright and feels velvety because the guard hairs are shortened to about the same level as the undercoat. Castor is one of the classic varieties, but Mini Rex rabbits also appear in many self, shaded, agouti, otter, broken, and tri-color-related varieties depending on registry.
Mini Rex care is not difficult, but the coat should be handled differently from ordinary rollback fur. Hard brushing can damage texture, and pressure from rough flooring may show as sore hocks or flattened coat, so clean, supportive surfaces matter. Breeders evaluate density, spring, color, and body type together; a rabbit with beautiful color but poor rex texture misses the point of the breed. Buyers should feel for a resilient plush coat rather than accepting only a color label.
