Rabbit Color Calculator
Explore kit colors, carrier chances and sourced health notes. Unknown copies stay unknown.
Meet the possibilities
Enter known copies or start with a color. Leave uncertain copies unknown.
Plan a rabbit pairing using the genes you know. The calculator shows exact kit odds when the parents are known, separate scenarios when a few copies are unknown, and possible colors without probabilities when more is uncertain. It keeps linked genes separate and shows sourced health notes, including the lethal dwarf combination.
Start with what you know
A color name is a starting point, not a complete genotype.
- Enter the two alleles at each color locus
- Paste a breeder genotype line
- Keep unrecorded copies unknown
- Choose a color and review any hypothetical recipe
- Use a rabbit whose profile you can edit
Read each result in context
Fractions describe chances for each kit, not a promised litter.
- Carrier shares are within kits with the same look
- Linked genes are shown per locus when phase is unknown
- Disputed variety names keep their qualification
- The survivors view removes only deterministic nonviable combinations
- Saving a pairing does not change a rabbit’s recorded genetics
Frequently asked questions
Can I calculate rabbit colors without knowing every gene?
Yes. Leave unknown copies unknown. A small number of possibilities is shown as separate scenarios. Larger sets produce possible colors without odds, or possible copies by locus when there are too many combined colors.
Does a color name establish a rabbit’s genotype?
No. Different genotypes can look alike. Starting from a color fills only the copies shared by its reviewed interpretations. Any suggested recipe is a hypothetical choice that you must select explicitly.
What is a peanut in a dwarf rabbit pairing?
A kit with two copies of the reviewed dwarf mutation is a lethal dwarf, often called a peanut. A pairing of two one-copy dwarf parents has a one-in-four chance of that combination at conception. The survivors view removes those kits and recalculates the remaining chances.
Why are some genes shown separately?
Brown and Color series, Agouti and Dwarf, and English spotting and Long hair are linked. When a parent is heterozygous at both members of a linked pair, their joint chances depend on information this calculator does not model. One gene stays in the combined odds and the other is shown at conception by locus.
Will the calculator save genetics to my rabbit?
Saving keeps the pairing in your private calculation history. It does not write predicted or hypothetical genetics to a rabbit’s profile.
Why do some variety names have qualifiers?
Clubs and genetics references sometimes use a name for different combinations, or give different descriptions for the same genes. The result keeps those disagreements visible and always shows the underlying genotype.
