Spotted Poland China
The Spotted Poland China is the older name and breed background behind what is often now called the Spotted pig in the United States. It developed from Poland China ancestry with a black-and-white spotted color pattern and became a recognized pork breed in its own right. The name reflects a transition in American breed history rather than a separate country of origin.
For breeders, Spotted Poland China stock should be evaluated by structure, reproductive traits, growth, and carcass usefulness, not only by a flashy pattern. Good management includes strong pens, clean farrowing areas, and nutrition that keeps breeding animals fit rather than overfat. In records and sales, clarity matters because some associations and breeders use updated names. A spotted pig with no documented background should not automatically be treated as this breed.
