Camborough
The Camborough is a proprietary commercial sow line of domestic pig, best known through PIC breeding programs. It is not a traditional pure breed with a closed public herdbook; it is a hybrid or composite maternal female selected from Large White, Landrace-type and related commercial genetics. Farmers search for Camborough pigs chiefly as replacement gilts or sows, valued for uniform bodies, high litter output, mothering ability, teat quality and efficient production of feeder pigs when mated to a terminal sire. Most are plain white or light skinned in modern systems, although crossbred descendants may show other colors.
Care is the same as for other high-output commercial pigs, but the margin for error is small. Gilts need controlled growth before first service, adequate space, cooling, sound feet and careful feeding through gestation and lactation. Camborough females are usually managed with artificial insemination, herd health protocols and production recording rather than show-barn selection. Buyers should ask which company line and generation they are receiving, whether the animal is sold for multiplication, commercial pork production or cull use, and what health status accompanies it.
