Tamworth

The Tamworth is a red British pig breed with a long body, strong legs, active temperament, and strong outdoor ability. It is one of the classic bacon-type heritage pigs, with roots in Staffordshire and surrounding areas. The breed's ginger to red coat, long snout, and foraging drive make it easy to distinguish from heavier black or white commercial breeds.

Tamworth pigs reward farms that can offer pasture, woodland edges, or roomy outdoor pens with strong fencing. They are active rooters and need shelter, wallows, and ration management so they grow well without damaging land beyond what the site can handle. Breeders should select for length, soundness, litter performance, and calm handling while preserving the red color and hardy character. Buyers should expect a slower, more athletic pig than a modern confinement hybrid.
