Macedonian Horse
The Macedonian horse is a Balkan regional horse type associated with North Macedonia and surrounding mountain country. It is usually described as a small, tough riding and pack horse rather than a highly standardized modern breed. Local horses of this kind have been used for farm work, transport, herding, and travel over steep terrain where sure-footedness and thrift were more useful than height.
Because the label can cover variable local stock, practical evaluation matters. A good Macedonian horse should have sound feet, a steady mind, and enough strength for its intended work without being overloaded. Conservation or documentation efforts should record village origin, family lines, use, and photographs where possible. Owners outside the region should be cautious about broad claims, since crossbreeding and informal naming can blur the boundaries of the type.
