Morgan
The Morgan is an American horse breed tracing its foundation to the stallion Figure, later associated with Justin Morgan in Vermont. Morgans are compact, strong riding and driving horses with an arched neck, expressive presence, deep body, and versatile way of going. The breed has produced roadsters, cavalry mounts, farm horses, show horses, family saddle horses, and carriage horses, with several family lines influencing type and use.
Morgan owners often prize trainability and stamina, but good management still depends on matching type to use. A park-style show Morgan, a working western Morgan, and a traditional family horse may need different conditioning, shoes, and tack. Breeders should protect sound feet, depth of body, good legs, and willing character, because the breed's usefulness has always depended on more than a polished outline. Buyers benefit from seeing the horse work calmly outside a show setting.
