Pygora
The Pygora goat is a charming and versatile breed known for its delightful personality and luxurious fiber. Developed in the 1980s in Oregon, USA, the Pygora is a result of crossing the Angora goat with the Pygmy goat, combining the best traits of both heritages. This breed is celebrated for its high-quality fiber, which comes in three distinct types: Type A, resembling the silky mohair of the Angora; Type B, a mix of mohair and cashmere-like down; and Type C, a fine, cashmere-like fiber. These fibers make Pygoras particularly prized in the fiber arts community for spinning and weaving projects.
Pygoras are medium-sized, typically weighing between 65 to 95 pounds, making them manageable for enthusiasts and small-scale farmers alike. They are renown for their friendly and engaging demeanor, often described as sociable and easy to handle, which makes them excellent companions on hobby farms. Their playful, inquisitive nature, combined with their low nutritional requirements and good hardiness, make them a delightful and practical choice for goat enthusiasts. Whether for fiber production, show, or simply as an affectionate pet, Pygora goats are a unique and endearing addition to any farm or homestead.
