Nubian
The Nubian, often called the Anglo-Nubian in many registries, is a large dairy goat developed in Britain from local dairy goats crossed with Middle Eastern, North African, and Indian influence. It is easy to recognize by its long pendulous ears, convex profile, tall frame, and broad color range. Nubians are valued for milk with relatively high butterfat and protein, although volume varies by family and management. The breed has a more warm-climate look than the upright-eared Swiss dairy breeds.
Nubians fit dairy herds, homesteads, and show barns where owners can manage their size, voice, and feed needs. They may handle heat better than some alpine breeds, but still need shade, clean water, parasite control, and strong fences. Breeders should give equal weight to udder attachment, feet, mammary health, fertility, body capacity, and temperament. Buyers should look for milk records or family production history instead of judging only by ears, color, or show presence.
