Lionhead
The Lionhead is a small rabbit breed defined by the mane gene, which produces longer wool around the head and sometimes a bib, chest, or flank skirt. A good Lionhead should still look like a balanced rabbit under the mane, with upright ears, a compact body, and a clear distinction between mane wool and the shorter saddle coat. Single-maned and double-maned animals can look different, especially as they mature or molt.
The mane gives the breed its charm and its main maintenance task. Wool around the cheeks, chest, and hindquarters can mat if ignored, yet over-grooming can thin the presentation on a show rabbit. Breeders have to balance mane density, body type, ear length, and color recognition rather than selecting only for a fluffy face. Pet buyers should check whether the rabbit's coat is stable enough for their grooming skill and whether the animal has been handled around the face and collar.
