Silver Fox
The Silver Fox is a large American rabbit breed developed for meat and fur, and older accounts commonly connect it with the name American Heavyweight Silver before the current name became established. It is not the same as the older Silver breed. Its signature is a dense standing coat with silver-tipped and white hairs scattered through the dark base, combined with a substantial commercial body and calm utility-rabbit presence.
Selection in Silver Fox rabbits balances size, mothering, growth, fur character, and heritage appeal, but the coat needs close attention. The fur should stand when stroked back rather than immediately rolling down like many normal coats. Because the breed is less common than major commercial rabbits, conservation-minded breeding benefits from careful stock exchange and honest culling. Pet owners should plan for a large rabbit that needs room, good flooring, and heat awareness.
