Middle White
The Middle White is a British pig breed developed between the Large White and the now-extinct Small White type. It is a white pig with upright ears, a compact body, and a notably short, dished face. Historically, it was valued as a pork pig rather than a bacon pig, producing a smaller carcass suited to markets that wanted tender fresh pork. Today it is usually discussed as a rare or heritage breed rather than a mainstream commercial animal.
Middle White pigs suit keepers who understand full-sized pig management but want a traditional British type with a different carcass style from long bacon breeds. They need shade for white skin, careful farrowing attention, and sound flooring that protects their compact build. Breeding choices should protect the breed's head and body type without ignoring fertility, feet, and growth. As with any rare breed, genuine source records are more useful than color alone.
