Göttingen Minipig
The Gottingen Minipig is a small domestic pig breed developed in Germany for biomedical research and controlled colony management. It was selected for compact adult size, predictable growth, manageable temperament, and reproductive reliability, with background influence from several small or production pig populations. Although it is much smaller than standard commercial pigs, it is still a true pig, not a toy animal, and adults require serious housing, diet control, and veterinary planning.
Gottingen Minipigs are most often managed in research, breeding, or specialized veterinary settings where body weight, health status, and lineage are closely monitored. In private ownership, the same traits that make them useful in research can lead to misunderstanding if buyers expect a permanently tiny pet. They need secure fencing, enrichment, hoof and dental care, social contact, and controlled feeding to prevent obesity. Anyone acquiring one should understand local rules, source ethics, and the long life span before treating size as the main selling point.
