Clun Forest
The Clun Forest is a British sheep breed from the hill country around Clun in Shropshire and the Welsh border. It is a medium-sized, dark-faced breed with an alert carriage, good mothering ability, and useful grass-based lamb production. The fleece is usually white to off-white, while the clean dark face and legs give the breed a tidy hill-sheep appearance.
Clun Forest sheep are often used as practical ewes in lowland and upland systems, especially where easy lambing, milk, lamb vigor, and moderate mature size are priorities. Rams may add maternal strength without producing lambs that are too large for commercial ewes. Flock buyers should compare feet, udders, lambing percentages, and whether the animals have been selected for commercial production, showing, or traditional type. Good Clun flocks are useful because they balance mothering, grazing ability, and manageable size.
