Silver
The Silver rabbit is an old domestic breed with colored fur intermingled with white guard hairs, creating a bright silvered effect. It is separate from the much larger Silver Fox and from the Silver Marten pattern. Traditional Silver varieties include black, brown, and fawn in several registry contexts, with the silvering expected to be distributed through the coat rather than appearing as random white hairs or ordinary ticking.
Silver rabbits are useful for explaining why color names can hide different breeds. A small or medium Silver should be judged on type, even silvering, base color, and condition, while a Silver Fox should show a different body and standing coat. Breeders need patience because silvering can develop with age, and young rabbits may not show the final balance. Owners should avoid overgrooming or rough handling that breaks coat presentation before a show.
