Rex (US)
Rex in United States registry language usually means the standard American Rex breed, a medium-large rabbit with a commercial body and the classic short plush Rex coat. It is distinct from Mini Rex, Velveteen Lop, Plush Lop, and other rex-coated projects. American Rex breeders work with multiple accepted color varieties, but the central feature remains the dense, upright coat that gives an even velvet feel across the body.
Good United States Rex management protects the coat without pampering it into weakness. Clean resting boards, dry bedding, and careful nail and foot checks help prevent hock trouble, while grooming is usually light because the coat is short. Breeders evaluate fur texture, density, body depth, shoulders, loin, and color together. For buyers, a smooth soft rabbit is not automatically a Rex; mature size, ear carriage, body type, and breeder records should support the label.
