English Lop
The English Lop is one of the oldest fancy lop breeds, famous for extremely long, low-carried ears and a mandolin-shaped body. It is a different kind of lop from the compact Holland Lop or heavy French Lop: the ear carriage is the central visual feature, and the rabbit has a long, open outline rather than a short blocky body. Good examples carry their ears evenly, with enough substance to look balanced rather than fragile.
English Lop management is shaped by those ears. Housing needs smooth floors, uncluttered paths, and protection from trampling or chilling, especially when young rabbits are still growing into their ear length. Hot weather also deserves attention because large ears do not make a rabbit immune to heat stress. Breeders select for ear length, thickness, body shape, and sound movement, while avoiding exaggeration that leaves the rabbit awkward or injury-prone. As companions, they need calm handling and roomy quarters rather than a small cage chosen for an average rabbit.
