Crossbred
A crossbred rabbit is the result of breeding rabbits from different breeds, strains, or mixed backgrounds. The term can describe planned production crosses, accidental litters, pet rabbits of unknown parentage, or purposeful combinations meant to improve growth, fertility, coat, or temperament. Unlike a standardized breed, crossbred does not predict one body type, adult size, color, or show classification.
Crossbred rabbits can be excellent animals, but they should be evaluated as individuals. Owners should look at teeth, feet, body condition, temperament, and expected adult size rather than relying on a breed label. Breeders using crossbreds for meat, pets, or working lines should keep parentage and performance notes so useful traits are not lost in guesswork. For exhibition, crossbred rabbits may be limited to pet or non-standard classes depending on the show rules.
