Texel
A texel mouse is a long-haired, curly-coated variety of the domestic mouse, Mus musculus. It is generally associated with a combination of long coat and rex-type curl, giving the animal a tousled or wavy outline with curled whiskers. The coat may fall in loose waves rather than tight ringlets, depending on the line and the age of the mouse. Texel can be seen in many fancy colors and patterns, including black, blue, chocolate, cream, fawn, red, lilac, Himalayan, Siamese, broken marked, and even marked.
Texel mice need ordinary mouse care with extra attention to coat cleanliness. Soft bedding can cling to long hair, and damp fur around the rump or water bottle area should be corrected quickly. Most texels do not need regular grooming, but a gentle check helps catch mats, skin irritation, or parasites before they become serious. Breeders usually balance coat length, curl, density, and whisker quality against the more important traits of vigor, fertility, and manageable temperament. For pets, a sound short-coated sibling may be just as suitable if the texel coat is hard to maintain.
