Rex
A rex mouse is a curly-coated variety of the domestic mouse, Mus musculus. The coat is usually plush, waved, or crimped rather than flat, and the whiskers are often curled or kinked. Rex is a coat type, not a color, so it can appear in black, blue, chocolate, cream, fawn, Himalayan, Siamese, broken marked, and other fancy mouse varieties. The amount of curl can vary between lines and may look different after molting or as the mouse matures.
Rex mice are kept and bred much like other fancy mice, with attention paid to coat texture when animals are selected for show or breeding. Low-dust bedding helps keep the coat clean and reduces irritation around the eyes and nose. Routine brushing is rarely needed, but keepers should notice thinning patches, skin flaking, or whiskers that interfere with normal feeding or movement. A well-bred rex should still have the basic strengths expected of a pet mouse: sound body condition, steady handling, and clear breathing.
