Poodle (Miniature)

The Miniature Poodle is the mid-sized variety of the Poodle, a curly-coated dog breed with roots in European water retrieving and a long association with France. It stands between the Standard and Toy varieties, with exact height limits depending on registry. Miniatures keep the same square outline, dark expressive eyes, long ears, and dense low-shedding curls seen in the larger Poodle, but in a more portable size. Historically they were companions, performers, and in some regions truffle-searching dogs, using sharp noses and quick learning rather than brute strength.

Miniature Poodles are active, people-focused dogs that do best when training, play, and daily walks are part of the routine. Their coat is the major commitment: it must be brushed and clipped regularly, whether kept in a practical puppy trim or a more formal pattern. Low shedding does not guarantee an allergy-safe household, so sensitive families should spend time with the breed first. Dental care, weight control, and ear maintenance are important, and breeders commonly screen for eye disease, patellar luxation, hip issues, and inherited conditions such as progressive retinal atrophy. A well-raised Miniature should be confident rather than nervous or snappy.
