French Mondain
The French Mondain is a large French utility and exhibition pigeon developed for a broad body, deep breast, and strong squab-producing type. It is one of the better-known Mondain forms and belongs with heavy domestic pigeons rather than tumblers, owls, or homers. Modern show birds are judged for substance, balance, smooth feathering, and carriage, while still reflecting the practical meat-pigeon background of the breed.
Mondains need roomier housing than small fancy pigeons, with sturdy perches, large nest bowls, and floors kept dry under heavier traffic. Feed should support breeding without making adults overly fat, since excess weight can reduce fertility and parenting. Breeders value fast-growing squabs, calm temperament, good legs, and pairs that feed young reliably. Buyers should check body condition and sound movement, not only size.
