Archangel

The Archangel is a color pigeon, also called the Gimpel in some traditions, recognized by metallic bronze, gold, or copper body color contrasted with dark wings. It is an old European fancy breed often associated with central and eastern Europe. The breed is kept for intense feather sheen, clean markings, and a small-to-medium body rather than for racing or utility use.

Archangels need clean lofts and regular bathing so the metallic feather color stays in good condition. Breeders select carefully for color depth, wing pattern, body type, head character, fertility, and steady parenting. Sunlight can show the sheen well, but housing still needs shade and weather protection. Because color is central, near-marked birds may not be suitable for show breeding even when healthy. Buyers should compare birds after the molt, when the wing pattern and body color can be judged more fairly.
