New Forest Pony
The New Forest pony is a native British pony from the New Forest of southern England. Ponies have long grazed the forest under commoning traditions, producing a hardy, sensible type used for riding, driving, and children's mounts. The breed is usually moderate in size, sure-footed, and more horse-like than tiny companion pony in its movement and usefulness.
New Forest ponies can be excellent family and competition ponies when trained well, but their native hardiness requires thoughtful care. Rich pasture can cause weight and hoof problems, so turnout and feeding need watching. Buyers should check height, age, registration, temperament, and workload history. Conservation of the breed also depends on responsible forest management and breeding that preserves practical character.
