Puli

The Puli is a distinctive and energetic herding dog known for its unique and eye-catching corded coat, which resembles a tightly woven mop. Originating from Hungary, where it was primarily used as a sheepdog, the Puli is highly valued for its intelligence, agility, and protective nature. This medium-sized breed typically stands about 16 to 17 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between 25 to 35 pounds.

Pulis are characterized by their long, dense coats that naturally form cords over time, providing excellent protection against harsh weather conditions. Their coats require regular maintenance to prevent matting and to keep the cords neat. While predominantly black, Pulis can also come in white, gray, or other shades.

In terms of temperament, the Puli is lively, loyal, and highly trainable, making it an excellent family companion. They have a strong herding instinct and can be quite vocal, often serving as effective watchdogs. The breed thrives in active households where it can participate in physical and mental activities, benefiting from sports like agility or obedience training. Pulis are known for their playful demeanor and form strong bonds with their families, demonstrating both affection and a keen sense of guardianship.
