The English foxhound is a large scent hound developed in Britain for pack hunting, with a history shaped by organized kennels, hunts, and long-distance work over open country. It has a deep chest, strong straight legs, a level back, and a short weather-resistant coat most often seen in hound colors such as black, white, and tan. Unlike showier companion hounds, the traditional English foxhound was bred first for nose, stamina, voice, and the ability to work politely within a pack.

Life with one outside a hunt kennel takes planning. English foxhounds are social, athletic dogs that may find scents more persuasive than their handlers, so secure fencing, leash discipline, and patient recall training matter. They often do best with canine company and regular mileage, whether through trail work, hound exercise, or other structured activity. Their short coats are simple to maintain, but ears and feet need attention after wet or rough ground. Prospective owners should check local rescue and hunt sources, as many available dogs come from working backgrounds and may not be used to household routines.

How Much Does Dog Boarding Cost? Kennel, In-Home, and Luxury Prices

There is no trustworthy national price for dog boarding, and you should be wary of any page that hands you one to the dollar. A standard kennel run, a spot in a sitter’s spare bedroom, and a suite at a resort with group play and a webcam are three different services with three different cost […]

Puppy Vaccination Schedule: Core Shots by Age, Boosters, and Records

A standard puppy vaccination schedule starts the core combination shot (distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, and usually parainfluenza) at 6 to 8 weeks of age and repeats it every 2 to 4 weeks until the puppy is at least 16 weeks old. Rabies follows at 12 weeks or later, when your local law says, and leptospirosis, now […]

How Long Are Dogs Pregnant? Due Dates, Week by Week, and Whelping Signs

Dogs are pregnant for about 63 days, or roughly nine weeks, but the real answer for any one dog is a window, not a single date. Counted from the day she was first bred, a normal pregnancy can run anywhere from 58 to 72 days, according to the Merck Veterinary Manual, because the breeding date […]

Dog Insurance Records: Organize Policy Documents and Renewal Details

When you need an insurance document, the useful question is usually specific: which policy covers this dog, where is the current schedule, who should be contacted and what date needs attention next? A folder full of similarly named downloads can make those simple questions surprisingly slow to answer. Creatures includes an Insurance record type within […]

Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI): What It Means, How to Calculate It, and Linebreeding Explained

The coefficient of inbreeding (COI) is the probability that an animal inherits two identical copies of a gene from a single ancestor that appears on both its sire’s side and its dam’s side of the pedigree. It is written as a percentage. When the grandparents are unrelated and not inbred, a puppy whose parents are […]

Breeder Buyer Applications: Ask Useful Questions and Review Them Consistently

A breeder buyer application should collect information that could change a placement decision. It is useful when you need to discuss housing, experience, care arrangements, or timing before a buyer can proceed. Creatures lets a seller require approval and select a reusable form; the application-form guide explains that setup. AI-generated illustration. Applications at a glance […]
