Motley
The motley reticulated python is a captive-bred pattern morph of Python reticulatus, the large constrictor from Southeast Asia with a netlike wild-type pattern. Motley animals usually show reduced, rearranged patterning with cleaner sides and more striping or linked markings along the back, though expression varies by line and by combinations with genes such as albino, sunfire, tiger, or platinum. It is a morph name, not a separate species or locality.
Care is the same as for other reticulated pythons of comparable ancestry: secure housing, a warm thermal gradient, tropical humidity, and a feeding plan suited to a powerful snake that may become very large. Buyers should be especially careful to distinguish mainland animals from dwarf or super dwarf ancestry because the motley label does not predict manageable size. Breeders use motley in projects for its pattern-cleaning effect, and accurate hatchling identification matters when combined with other pattern-reducing morphs.
