Anthrax
The anthrax reticulated python is a captive color and pattern morph of Python reticulatus; the name is a reptile-hobby label and has nothing to do with the livestock disease. Anthrax retics are associated with dark, charcoal, black, or silvery tones and a stronger reduction of the normal warm yellow-brown appearance. Some animals keep a visible reticulated pattern, while combinations with other morphs can make the look much more dramatic or difficult to identify from photos alone. As with many retic morphs, age, lighting, shed cycle, and lineage can change how dark the animal appears.
People considering an anthrax retic should treat it first as a reticulated python: a long-lived, powerful snake that may require very large, secure quarters. Feeding records, temperament notes, and locality or dwarf ancestry are more useful than color when judging whether a snake fits a keeper's facilities. Breeding projects benefit from clear parentage records because dark morphs can be mistaken for one another, especially in combos. Normal husbandry focuses on stable warmth, humidity that supports clean sheds, sturdy perches or floor space, and safe handling routines.
