Genetic Stripe
The genetic stripe reticulated python is a heritable pattern morph in Python reticulatus in which the normal broken net pattern is reorganized into a clearer stripe running along the back. The result can range from a narrow, clean dorsal line to broader striping with reduced side pattern, depending on the line and any additional morphs present. The word genetic is important in the hobby because wild-type retics can occasionally hatch with odd striping that is not proven to reproduce predictably. In combinations, genetic stripe can sharpen the look of albino, anery, goldenchild, and other projects.
A striped retic is not easier to house or handle because of its pattern. Keepers still need adult-sized plans, reliable locks, a warm basking area, adequate humidity, and feeding routines that avoid pushing growth beyond what the animal and enclosure can support. For breeders, the main practical issue is identification: documenting whether an animal is visual, a nonvisual carrier, or part of a combo helps avoid selling a pattern variation as a proven genetic stripe. Temperament, feeding response, and locality ancestry deserve as much attention as the clean back line.
