Working Kelpie

Working Kelpie

The Working Kelpie is a highly skilled and versatile Australian herding dog renowned for its exceptional work ethic, intelligence, and unrivaled stamina. Bred primarily for herding livestock, especially sheep, these medium-sized dogs are acclaimed for their agility, speed, and ability to work independently or under direction. They possess a keen instinct for stock work, often displaying remarkable problem-solving abilities and adaptability to various environments.

Physically, Working Kelpies are athletic and robust, with a lean, muscular build that allows them to maneuver quickly and with agility. They typically weigh between 14 to 21 kilograms (31 to 46 pounds) and stand about 43 to 51 centimeters (17 to 20 inches) tall at the shoulder. Their coat is short, weather-resistant, and comes in a variety of colors, including black, red, chocolate, and smoky-blue, among others.

Beyond the farm, Working Kelpies are known for their loyal and energetic nature, making them excellent companions for active owners who can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation. While they are friendly and good-natured, they thrive on having a job and are happiest when they have a purpose. Their intense drive and need for mental and physical engagement make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles. With appropriate training and socialization, they can be a devoted and indispensable partner, whether in herding trials or as an active family pet.
