Plummer Terrier
The Plummer Terrier is a small working terrier developed in Britain in the late twentieth century and associated with Brian Plummer and other enthusiasts. Its background is usually described as Jack Russell-type terrier with added hound and bull terrier influence in some accounts. The breed was made for ratting, rabbiting, and pest control, so compact size, courage, nose, and speed mattered more than decorative exaggeration. Most Plummer Terriers are red or tan with white markings, a smooth close coat, keen expression, and sturdy athletic body.
Life with a Plummer Terrier suits people who understand active terriers. The dog may be soft indoors with its people, then switch quickly into chase, dig, or hunt mode outdoors, so secure gardens and reliable supervision are important. Short training sessions, recall work, puzzle feeding, and legal outlets such as barn hunt or scent activities help channel that drive. Grooming is simple, but teeth, nails, and weight still need routine attention. Ask about temperament around other dogs and small animals, since working instinct can be strong even in pet-bred lines.
