Miniature American Shepherd
The Miniature American Shepherd is a small herding breed developed in the United States from smaller Australian Shepherd-type dogs. It keeps much of the aussie-like look in a more compact package: a moderate coat, expressive eyes, agile body, and common colors such as black, blue merle, red, and red merle with or without white and tan. Despite the size, it is a working-minded shepherd rather than a decorative miniaturization.
This breed does best when owners provide training, movement, and problem-solving instead of relying on size to make it easy. Miniature American Shepherds can excel in agility, obedience, herding, and active family life, but they may become vocal or controlling when underworked. Coat care is moderate, with heavier seasonal shedding. Responsible breeding includes attention to hips, eyes, drug sensitivity risk, merle pairings, and stable confidence around people and dogs.
