Boston Terrier
The Boston terrier is an American companion breed developed in Boston from bulldog and terrier ancestry. It is a small, smooth-coated dog with a square head, compact body, upright ears, and the familiar tuxedo-like markings that gave rise to its gentleman nickname. Modern Boston terriers are kept primarily as companions, though their ancestry still shows in their lively expression and sturdy little frame.
Boston terriers suit many homes because they are social, portable, and usually eager to be near their people, but their short muzzle needs respect. Heat, heavy exertion, and poor conditioning can be risky, so exercise should be sensible and weather-aware. Owners should also watch eyes, skin folds, weight, and breathing comfort. Good breeders pay attention to patellas, eyes, airway structure, and temperament, aiming for a bright companion that can move and breathe freely.
