Goldendoodle
A goldendoodle is a planned cross between a golden retriever and a poodle, or between later generations of those crosses. It is a dog type rather than a standardized purebred, so size, coat, shedding, and temperament can vary widely. Miniature, medium, and standard labels usually reflect the poodle size used. Coats may be loose and wavy, tightly curled, or somewhere in between, and puppies from the same litter can mature quite differently. The common appeal is a social companion with retriever influence and poodle trainability, but no trait is guaranteed by the name alone.
Grooming is the first practical surprise for many goldendoodle homes. Low-shedding coats often mat unless they are brushed to the skin and clipped on a regular schedule, including the ears, tail, and armpits. Exercise needs can be substantial, especially in dogs from athletic golden or standard poodle lines. Careful buyers look for health testing relevant to both parent breeds, including hips, elbows, eyes, and heart evaluations, rather than relying on a generation label. Allergy claims should be tested by spending time with the actual dog whenever possible.
