Yokohama
Yokohama chickens are ornamental long-tailed fowl developed in Europe from Japanese long-tail stock, despite the Japanese port name by which they reached Western attention. They are slender birds with flowing tails and saddle feathers, most familiar in Red Shouldered and White varieties. Their value is visual and historical rather than meat or egg output, and they require more thoughtful feather care than ordinary farm chickens.
A Yokohama flock needs dry, clean housing, roosts arranged to protect tail feathers, and secure space because the birds can be active and light. They are not the right choice for rough muddy runs or production-focused flocks. Breeders pay close attention to tail length, carriage, clean color, fertility, and vigor, while owners should handle them gently and keep parasites controlled so the long feathering remains healthy. Good nutrition matters because feather quality quickly shows stress, crowding, or poor condition.
