Silverudd Blue/Isbar
The Silverudd Blue, formerly called Isbar in many older flocks, is a Swedish chicken breed developed by Martin Silverudd for colored eggs and practical utility. Hens lay green to greenish blue eggs, and the blue plumage gene means chicks may mature blue, black, or splash. Birds are usually medium sized, alert, and useful in small farm flocks rather than ornamental-only pens.
Breeding Silverudd Blues takes attention to both shell color and the genetics behind blue plumage. A blue-to-blue mating can produce blue, black, and splash birds, so color variation is expected. Keepers should record egg color by hen, maintain fertility, and choose for body soundness, laying, temperament, and flock health instead of letting the prettiest feathers steer every pairing.
