Leghorn Bantam
The Leghorn bantam is a miniature version of the Leghorn, carrying the breed's upright carriage, active nature, and clean Mediterranean outline in a small body. It is kept mostly for exhibition, small-flock enjoyment, and modest white eggs rather than for the commercial laying performance associated with large Leghorn strains. Many colors are recognized in different standards, with white remaining especially familiar.
Leghorn bantams need secure pens because they are active, light, and capable of flight. They do well with clean, dry housing, outdoor room, and regular handling that keeps them manageable without dulling their natural alertness. Breeders should select for correct type, comb quality, feather condition, and vigor, not just color. Large single combs can be vulnerable in freezing weather, so winter quarters should be draft-free. Buyers should expect a lively bantam that shows best when fit and active, not a calm lap chicken.
