Índio Gigante
The Índio Gigante is a Brazilian chicken developed around height, long legs, and an upright, gamefowl-like frame. Its ancestry is usually described as a mix of large Asian game types, Brazilian farm chickens, and later selection by breeders who measured stature as carefully as color or weight. Birds can appear in many plumage patterns, but the signature is the tall, rangy outline: high station, long neck, strong shanks, and a commanding posture that makes the breed look taller than most heavy chickens.
People usually keep Índio Gigante for exhibition, breeding projects, and small-scale meat interest rather than for ordinary egg production. Sound legs and balanced growth matter because extreme height without strength can create weak birds. Breeders compare height, body depth, temperament, and fertility, while buyers should ask how a flock was selected and whether young stock grew steadily on practical feed. These chickens need roomy housing, secure footing, and roosts that do not invite hard landings from a tall frame.
