German Langshan
The German Langshan is a German-developed chicken breed influenced by the imported Langshan but shaped into a separate continental utility and exhibition bird. It is tall, deep-bodied, and upright, with more lift through the body than many heavy farm breeds. Black is a familiar color, though additional varieties may be recognized depending on country and club. German breeders selected the bird for eggs, meat, and type, giving it a working foundation under its refined outline.
Owners often keep German Langshans for calm size, dark plumage, and dual-purpose usefulness. They need roomy housing, solid perches, and feed that supports a large frame without pushing birds into excess fat. Breeders should watch depth, leg strength, fertility, correct type, and steady laying, because a tall breed can lose balance if selected only for height. In mixed flocks, adult size helps them hold their place, but young birds still need slow, sound growth. Buyers should distinguish German Langshan from Croad Langshan and other Langshan-derived lines.
