Faverolles
Faverolles is a French chicken breed developed around the village of Faverolles and nearby districts from local farm fowl and several introduced breeds. It is a broad, soft-looking dual-purpose bird with a beard, muffs, feathered legs, five toes, and a deep body. Salmon Faverolles are the most familiar variety, with pale hens and more strongly colored males, though other color varieties are maintained in different standards. The breed's history centers on winter laying, table use, and a recognizable furnished face.
Faverolles often fit small farms and backyard flocks where calm handling and heritage utility both matter. Their feathered feet and facial furnishing need dry litter and occasional checks for mud, mites, or ice in difficult weather. They can be mild in mixed flocks, so feeding space and compatible companions help prevent crowding. Breeders should protect toe number, beard fullness, body width, fertility, and vigor, since decorative traits lose value when movement or production declines. A well-kept line can be useful, steady, and unmistakably French.
