Cream Brabanter
The cream Brabanter is the cream variety of the Brabanter, an old crested chicken from the historic Brabant region of the Netherlands and Belgium. It is a light to medium breed with a forward-swept crest, beard and muffs, and a small V-shaped comb that sits in front of the crest. Cream birds are pale buff to cream with darker markings, often giving a spangled or patterned look depending on the line and standard being used.
Brabanters are usually kept as rare ornamental layers rather than heavy meat birds. Their crests are less globular than a Polish chicken's, but keepers still watch for blocked vision, wet head feathers, and parasites around the beard. Active birds benefit from secure runs and enough space to forage without becoming flighty. When buying cream Brabanters, compare the flock to a recognized standard, because hatchery lines and imported European lines may differ in color depth, crest shape, and body size.
