Australian Langshan
The Australian Langshan is an Australian chicken breed derived from Langshan-type ancestry, including Croad Langshan and related birds, then selected locally into its own standard. It is usually seen in black, blue, or white, with an upright carriage, long legs, a single comb, and feathering on the outer toes. The breed is better known in Australia than abroad and is kept for eggs, exhibition, and breed tradition.
For flock owners, Australian Langshans are useful where a bird can be both attractive and productive without the bulk of heavier Asiatic breeds. They need dry ground because foot feathering can collect mud, and they show best when plumage is protected from rough housing. Breeders should select for leg length, carriage, toe feathering, color quality, and steady laying. The bantam form is also popular, so buyers should confirm size and standard before comparing birds.
