Peterbald
The Peterbald is a Russian cat breed developed in St Petersburg from Donskoy and Oriental Shorthair influences. It can appear in several coat types, from nearly hairless to flocked, velour, brush, or straight-coated, combined with a lean Oriental-style body and large ears. The hair-loss genetics differ from the Sphynx, and Peterbald kittens may change coat texture as they mature. The breed should look refined and long-lined without being reduced to the idea of baldness alone.
Management depends on coat type. Hairless and very sparse cats may need warmth, skin cleaning, sun protection, and soft bedding, while brush-coated cats may need less bathing but still benefit from skin checks. Owners should also watch claws, ears, and dental health as part of routine care. Breeders need to explain coat expectations honestly because a kitten's appearance can shift with age. Good programs preserve Oriental type while protecting sturdy movement, stable temperament, and basic skin comfort.
