LaPerm
The LaPerm is a curly-coated cat breed that began with a spontaneous coat mutation in barn cats in Oregon. Its coat may form loose waves, ringlets, or springy curls, with the fullest texture often around the neck, ears, and tail. Kittens can be born with different coat stages, including sparse or straight-looking coats that change as they mature. The breed is moderate in body type, friendly in expression, and accepted in many colors and patterns.
LaPerm care is less about sculpting a show coat and more about preserving curl without damaging it. Light combing, careful bathing when needed, and avoiding harsh brushing help keep the coat from frizzing or matting. Owners should expect seasonal and age-related coat changes, especially in young cats. Breeders track coat inheritance, general soundness, and outcross history where registries allow it. For buyers, the useful questions are whether the kitten is healthy, well socialized, and from lines that keep the LaPerm texture without narrowing the gene pool too aggressively.
